Design and Engineering

The purpose of this course is to introduce the students,the fundamental principles of design engineering.The course aims at help understand steps involved in the design process and to familiarize basic tools used and approaches in design. Students are expected to apply design thinking in learning as well as while practicing engineeringgiven the current scenario. Case studies will be utilized to help students realize that design is not only concerned about the function but also many other factors like customer requirements, economics, reliability, etc. along with a variety of life cycle issues. The course design would help students to consider aesthetics, ergonomics and sustainability factors in designs and also to practice professional ethics while designing.

Requirements

The course will be generic to all engineering disciplines and will not require specialized preparation or prerequisites in any of the individual engineering disciplines.
